Kathy Christian

Clinical Coordinator

I am by birth a Midwesterner and by training a Speech-Language Pathologist.  I attended school at the University of Missouri and the University of Iowa, then moved to New York in the late 1970’s, after working for a short time in Iowa public elementary schools.  I have worked as an SLP at YAI’s Manhattan Day Treatment program, at the Kennedy Child Study Center, at the Hospital for Special Surgery, and at the New York League for Early Learning’s William O’Connor School.  I returned to Brooklyn College 15 years ago to complete a certification in School Leadership so that I could begin to pursue more supervision, policy, and leadership activity.  I became the Clinical Supervisor for Speech-Language Pathology services at the NYLEL-William O’Connor School.  I also became the coordinator there of the Early Intervention center-based program.

Last July, I accepted a position at TLC as the Clinical Coordinator and IEP coordinator.  I have found the school to have a positive atmosphere, and to be full of competent professionals anxious to provide a high quality of service. I am impressed every day!  I have been working to solidify teams within each classroom, so that there are fewer therapists coming in and out of classrooms each day.  I have begun to work with some of the colleges and universities to increase our access to graduate students who wish to explore work with preschool children within their training programs.  (This helps us get to know young therapists so that there are more applicants when we have vacancies.)  I have made it a personal goal to get to know as many of the children and families as possible so that I feel comfortable advocating for you at your district meetings.

The parents at TLC are an impressive group.  So many of you are active participants in the life of the school.

Your efforts in fundraising have gotten off to a terrific start.  We appreciate any efforts you make both locally and state-wide in pressing for funding for small agency schools like ours, which are often overlooked during budgeting discussions. You also do us a great service by ensuring positive word-of-mouth information about our school in the neighborhoods we serve.  Most of all, we enjoy working with you to give your children the best access to their own potential.  As we work together, we can give our children the best possible start in life.
